The second chapter of my gaming youth was with, ironically, the second chapter of the Hugo story, Hugo Two - Whodunnit? It was a realatively good detective mystery for the time, really strange and with more ways to die then I can care to count. When I say this game was hard, it was REALLY hard.
It contains one of the hardest puzzles of my youth. The venus flytrap maze. If you move a pixel too far to the left or right, you die. And the controlls aren't really made for pixel perfect precision.
The game follows the story that Hugo and Pennelope(The victim from the last game) have gone on a honeymoon to visit her uncle. While visiting, hugo gets abducted and while searching for him, she witnesses the murder of her uncle. Then it's a wander around and try and open, close, push, pull and generally irritate everything untill you get to the end.(including a baby).
There are some puzzles that have solutions that you would never guess, or are just plain cheap. For example, the genie. To get across one specific puzzle, you need to cross a hidden ledge, that you wouldn't figureif you didn't try EVERYTHING else.
This is also one of those games where if you aren't paying attention and taking notes throughout the game, it really screws you in the end. At the end, you need to point out the murderer. If you fail, it's game over. If you don't fail... it's a slightly better game over. This is just another case of one of those games where the developer kinda gave up.
If you're into murder mysteries, this is a fun game. I won't spoil who did it to you, but it makes sense in the end.
(I only realized after I forgot to add one thing to my Hugo review. In the original game, there was a command line option that would play thrugh the game, so that you could see how to get past the areas that messed up. I believe the command was hugo.exe -hhh)
